Emergency

Dear pastor or spouse, if you are on the verge of injuring yourself or another or you are under the threat of being injured stop reading and dial 911. If your situation is an emergency we ask that you call 911 and seek professional help. On-line resources do not meet emergency needs like threatened suicide, suicidal or homicidal thoughts, needs for immediate protection or shelter for victims of domestic violence and other extreme situations. Again, if you or your loved one is in such an emergency please call 911.

Do not allow the overwhelming shame of being a pastor, ministry spouse or ministry professional who is in an emergency to keep you from getting emergency help. Push through the embarrassment. You are worth the seemingly impossible effort it may take to call for help. You deserve to be given the kind of emergency care every other human being is afforded. Dial 911.

You will find understanding and help. You will be believed. Honest cries for help are most often met with serious and compassionate help by emergency professionals. It is far better to pursue and obtain appropriate emergency care than stay trapped in fear or danger. Emergencies are not the time to worry about concerns like,  “If they find out they won’t love me.” or “It will ruin my husband’s career.” and on and on.

These are valid concerns but they must not stop you in an emergency from getting the help you need. Dial 911.

If you need help and are not in an emergency, the Clergy Recovery Network is thrilled to guide you in the next step of your courageous journey, even if your need is urgent. Go to Finding Help to learn how we may be helpful to you.
